ABOUT

The Check-In was born out of a deep belief that young folks, namely BIPOC youth, deserve an abundance of resources to enable them to be well. This is especially critical right now, in the midst of a global pandemic and ongoing civic discourse as we strive to create parity for Black folks.

You may notice that we’ve made some updates to The Check-In. Creating new ways forward within existing systems like education that are inherently unjust didn’t sit well with us, so we’re rerouting in a way that feels right.

Here is our current plan:

Phase One (Completed August 2020): This summer, we secured 50 computers, which are presently being disseminated to young folks in the NYC metro. These devices will help equip students for distance learning and mitigate barriers to access.

Phase Two (Presently): We teach virtual sessions utilizing yoga and meditation as a vehicle to enable young folks to engage with their emotions. These sessions are held free of charge and led by a roster of different teachers.

Phase Three : We are currently raising $30,000  to support 300 hours of free therapy for young folks who identify as Black, Indigenous, and Non-Black people of color. Our practitioners for this endeavor will be licensed therapists who base their treatments on anti-racism, decolonization, and anti-bias. We would be honored if you donated below!

All donations go directly to enabling us to paying therapy practitioners for providing care. We all deserve to be well, and limited financial means or access to culturally, emotionally, and racially competent practitioners should not be a barrier.
